DR GRIDLOCK
READERS TELL HOW TO STAY ALERT BEHIND THE WHEEL.

A 22 YEAR OLD WAS KILLED IN OCT 1996 WHEN THE HONDA ACCORD IN WHICH HE WAS A PASSENGER RAN INTO A CEMENT RETAINING WALL IN FRONT OF A RESIDENCE. THE DRIVER HAD FALLEN ASLEEP. (WASHINGTON POST NOV 6, 1997).

A LETTER SENT BY A READER, LIANE ATLAS FROM WASHINGTON

" I momentarily fell asleep while driving with my husband in California. It was a long drive, from Carmel to Santa Barbara, and I kept myself awake thereafter by singing songs. I really had to stretch my memory of songs from the 1920s to the 1950s. When I returned, a friend told me of a better alternative:

DOZE ALERT from SAV-A-LIFE Industries, 1-800-654-3337) , It's a gadget that fits behind one ear and gives off a loud , continuous bleat if the head drops forward. I've used it, and it works. It's better than the radio, which can put me to sleep.

A Real Wake-Up Whine
By JIM SHEA Courant Staff Writer

The going rate for pure annoyance is $39.95— plus shipping and handling. That is the price of the “Doze Alert,” a device that keeps the wearer from falling asleep at inopportune times.   Weighing 2 ounces, the unit is worn behind either ear and is designed to emit a high-pitched whine whenever the head tilts forward. “Today’s cars are very comfortable, which can lull you to sleep, and fatigue is the second greatest killer on the highway,” says J. Clayton, national sales manager for SAV-A-LIFE which markets the   Fran Drescher wannabe. The Doze Alert runs on a tiny battery and contains a switch that allows the -wearer to set the head angle that activates it.   The device comes in a box that has a sticky patch on the bottom so it can be attached to the dashboard for easy access. “We have sold thousands of these over the years,” says Clayton. “They are particularly popular with truck drivers and those who have to do a lot of driving.” Although the Doze Alert is primarily intended for vehicular use, Clayton says it can also be used for studying for exams, not sleeping through one’s bus stop or battling medications that make you drowsy. A few other applications also come to mind:
Meetings.
Church.
Certain people…

Doze Alert Will Keep You Awake While Driving
Carl E. Krupp
Have you ever just nodded off while driving.., suddenly jerking your head as you realize you were asleep? Often, you were sleeping only a fraction of a second, but some unlucky folks sleep for three to six seconds and run right off the road.

At seventy miles per hour, running off the road can eliminate all the advantage of keeping yourself in good physical shape, taking vitamins and having a good food storage program! We found a little gadget that can help called Doze-Alert, it sits on your ear like an old-fashioned large hearing aid.

When your head starts to slump, usually just before you doze, a buzzer sounds, waking you up If it happens more than a couple of times in an afternoon or evening, then you know you should either stop the car and go to sleep or get some coffee! ANNOYING BUT NEEDED In practice, you need to learn to keep your head straight, but he buzz in your ear will quickly train you.

You must persevere long enough to get over the training and start to get the benefits.

One of the benefits that have found is that I can drive longer each day because I am confident that I am not going to fall asleep and run off the road.

WHERE TO GET A DOZE ALERT One of the nice parts of this simple technology is the cost... only $39.95 plus shipping and handling. Doze Alert is available by calling SAV-A-LIFE at 1-800-654-3337.

CHANGING LIFE'S RISKS According to the National Safety Council, more than 33% of all accidents are caused by the driver falling asleep at the wheel.

For a small cost, and minor inconvenience, you can cut your accident rate by a giant margin! We at Self-Reliant Living hope you all try this device.., we like having so many subscribers!
